Pitbull Looking for Huskies?

I have a soft spot for Armando Christian Perez. Ok, I know it's not cool for a 40 something mother to like a Miami rapper who can sing in Spanish and English and has made something of himself. Someone who has gone from being kicked out by his mother for drug dealing to being a rapper, music producer, songwriter, business man, A&R man, presenter and actor, he has turned himself into a success.

He chose the name 'Pitbull' well.

So why am I writing about Pitbull today? Well as part of a promotion with Walmart, he will be sent to the branch that gets the most 'likes' on Facebook.

What a quality idea, Pitbull meeting and partying with fans.

Then, The Boston Phoenix newspaper started to encourage people to 'like' Walmart in Kodiak, (that is in Alaska if your geography isn't good). So the Miami born guy could end up some 225 miles south of Anchorage on the island famous for, yes you've guessed it, brown bears.

Probably the most amusing bit about this is that Kodiak Walmart has amassed more than 5 times the population of 'likes', currently sitting at around 47,250.

However Pitbull being the good guy that he is said, 'wherever the fans want to have a party, I will be there'.

I think that there is a definite split of people wanting Armando to visit, those who want to see him there and those who want rid of him from mainland USA.

Personally, I think that's a shame, in my opinion pitbull rocks. Like his name sake, he has proven that you can't judge a book by its cover.

Lions, Tigers and Bears, Oh My!

I don't know if you remember the story about a guy who let all his animals loose then committed suicide? It was October last year in Ohio. The police ended up killing the majority of them and, of course, the pictures were all over the news about how the police had slain these innocent animals needlessly.

Being the kind of tree-hugging hippy, Wiccan earth mother that I am, I did wonder if there was maybe some other action that could have been taken. I mean come on, surely the Muskingum County Sheriff's office could have called Snow White to charm all the animals back into their small cages?

Unfortunately Snow White wasn't available and it wasn't bluebirds and bunnies it was lions and tigers and bears and monkeys and wolves...... That kind of puts a different slant on it.

Anyway, I'm not here to judge whether what Sheriff Lutz, Deputy Merry, a SWAT team and zoo specialist type people did or did not do wrong. I'm after all, sitting on a couch, looking out my window to the sun, I'm not in the pitch dark, being stalked by a 400lb hungry, pissed off lion knowing that even with my asthma inhaler, there is no way I'd ever be able to outrun it....

I'm sorry, but self preservation would probably take over and I'm not sure I could put all my hope & prayers to what ever goddess or god you believe in, that the big kitty would want to play with a ball of wool and not my head.

So, why am I blogging about this now? Well Terry Thompson's widow, Marian got the surviving 2 monkeys, a brown bear and 2 leopards back from quarantine. When they were released from the Ohio Zoo, she promptly took them back to the farm where her husband and other animals died.

To me that has quite a high ick factor, but never mind, I'm not here to judge her actions. I'll admit that I think of my GSD as my fur-baby, I like a cuddle at her but she is a domesticated animal, not a bloody leopard. Having a dog sleep on your bed, isn't quite the same as keeping a monkey in a bird cage, cuddling a full grown bear and sharing your bed with a lion.

My concern is with the animals safety, security and welfare. I am no animal expert but when I saw where these 'exotic animals' were being kept, I didn't consider it to be right. I don't think they are living in very secure or very big cages and I know for certain I wouldn't be happy living next door in case my son became lunch for a bear.

It's ironic that though that someone is able to keep these exotic animals in unsavoury conditions and they can't be taken from her, however if Marian Thompson had a pitbull, it could be removed from her care through Ohio's BSL law.

It's horrible to think that 18 tigers, 17 lions, 8 bears, 3 cougars, 2 wolves and 2 monkeys died that dark October night in 2011, it wasn't their fault, they were doing what comes naturally. What I think is more the issue is the conditions they were kept in.

Wanted: Fairy Dog-mother for Lennox

Where knowledge ends, violence begins.

Lennox is a 6 year old black boy who was taken from his home by an official illegally; he has no contact with his family since 19th May 2010. He has also suffered from some unexplained injuries while he has been held against everyone’s wishes on a bed of sawdust.

Disgusted yet?

This hasn’t happened in a far off country, this has happened in Belfast.

On 11/11/11 when some people are celebrating the weirdness of the date, 12 year old Brooke will be wondering if her best friend will die.

Disgusted yet?

Is this enough prejudice for you?

Ill give you some more then. Think about this for a bit then will you? Lennox is being held because of what he looks like, not what he is.

Lennox had his legs and nose measured with a run-off-the-mill dressmaking tape measure and there the decision was taken to remove him from the house.

Lennox was seized under the Dangerous Dogs (NI) Order 1991. The measurements were used as proof that Lennox is a banned Pit Bull Terrier; incidentally, those measurements could also condemn a Labrador….

When Lennox was a baby, his very responsible owners had him neutered, licensed, insured, DNA registered, Pet Safe registered and micro chipped. Lennox is actually a Labrador crossed with and American Bull dog and as a point of interest, when Lennox’s brother was adopted his paperwork shows him to be a Lab cross.

Not just one suffering

Caroline Barnes is not only concerned about the health and welfare of her beloved dog, but her daughter Brooke’s health also. Brooke who is registered disabled has lost her best friend and is so distraught that even her specialist Doctor and Belfast

Royal Hospital for Sick Children said how Lennox being away was having a negative affect on her well-being.

I’ve signed the petition at http://www.savelennox.co.uk/ because I care. Not just about a girl I’ve never met in a country I’ve never been too or a dog I’ve never had a slobby kiss from, but because it’s right to make a stand.

At the beginning, when the thought crossed that I was talking about a child, how politically motivated did you feel? Do you think dogs don’t have feelings?

Lennox has not bitten, attacked or put a paw out of place in all of this. It is very easy to rectify the situation but no government official seems to have the balls to be the fairy godmother and right this wrong.

Fancy a quick quiz?
